The United Anglican Church: Our Story

The United Anglican Church was formed in 2002 by the merger of the Traditional Episcopal Church and the Anglo-Catholic Church in the Americas at a meeting in Clearwater, Florida. The Traditional Episcopal Church brought to the merger churches in the United States, South America, the Philippines, England, Italy, and its on-line, distance learning educational program.
The Anglo-Catholic Church in the Americas was reactivated as a Province in February, 1997, building upon the foundation of earlier Provinces of the Anglo-Catholic Church in America and of the Anglican Rite Jurisdiction in America and from the Philippine Independent Catholic Church, a constituent part of the international Anglican Communion which was directly involved in the birth of this traditional Anglican jurisdiction.
One of the initiators behind the formation of the United Anglican Church was Archbishop Gilbert McDowell, who became the Church’s first Primate. He along with Archbishop Norman Strauss, were the leading visionaries who desired to see a truly apostolic and Anglican Church. They envisioned a Church built on the ancient unchanging faith of the apostolic Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, with a heart for reaching the hurting and the lost with the Gospel of Christ.
The mission of the United Anglican Church is to live out the ancient faith of the Church, to celebrate the peace of Christ, and to build unity in the holy catholic and apostolic church through our Scriptural tradition and the proclamation of the life changing Gospel to all nations!
The mission of the United Anglican Church is the mission of Jesus Christ which is why we are committed to being a “missional” part of Christ’s Church.
Our aim is to be actively engaged in planting new Anglican churches, developing leadership, and expanding the Church by reaching those who have never heard the Gospel.
